Jewelry SizingĀ
Rings
Ring sizes in the Heavy Petal shop are listed in American standard sizing, using whole and half sizes. If you are unsure of your ring size any local jeweler should be able to measure your finger (usually for free) in American standard sizing. If you cannot access a jeweler you can either measure the inside diameter of a ring you already own or consider purchasing a finger gauge. Please refer to this chart for international sizing and size diameters. Temperature, water retention, activity and time of day can cause finger sizes to naturally, try to find an average between these sizes to ensure a comfortable fit all the time.
If you are planning on stacking your rings more than 4mm thick, you may want to consider sizing up 1/2 size.
Necklaces

Bracelets
For bracelet and bangle sizing I recommended an “easy fit” which is adding an extra 2 cm / 0.79″ to your wrist circumference measurement.
How to measure your wrist
Using a fabric tape measure, wrap it around your wrist, going over the bone so you are measuring the widest portion of the wrist. If you do not have a fabric tape measure, use a strip of paper, ribbon, or cord, then mark the strip where it overlaps and measure it on a ruler or tape measure.
Using the measurement from above, refer to the chart below and find your corresponding wrist size and the recommended bracelet size. My sizing is based on an easy fit, so a size 3 would be a 15cm wrist measurement with an additional 2cm allotted for comfort. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the bracelet and your wrist. Depending on your personal preference whether you like a snug fit, easy fit or a loose fit, you may need to move up or down a size accordingly to suit your preference.

Jewelry Care
General Metals Care
Heavy Petal pieces are made with solid sterling silver, solid 10k gold, solid 14k gold, solid bronze, and solid brass. Over time with normal wear and oxidation, silver, bronze and brass will develop a natural patina. To help slow this process remove your jewelry before applying lotion or engaging in anything that may involve getting your jewelry wet, such as swimming, hand washing, applying lotion, washing dishes, etc. You can also store them in the ziplock bag with the anti-tarnish square they were shipped in to help avoid tarnish. All metals may be gently polished with a jewelry polishing cloth to restore and maintain the original polish of the piece if desired.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver will tarnish over time when exposed to oxygen, moisture, sulfur and certain chemicals. The best measure to prevent this is wearing your silver jewelry often as the oils in your skin help prevent tarnish. (This varies depending on your own body chemistry.)
When not wearing your silver jewelry in an air tight bag or jewelry box with an anti-tarnish square.
Clean your sterling silver with a soft toothbrush using a mix of equal parts lemon juice + baking soda. Gently scrub your piece then rinse and pat dry. Use a polishing cloth to bring the shine back.
Gold: 10k + 14k
Gold is the best metal choice if you leave your jewelry on all the time. While 10k and 14k gold occasionally tarnish lightly, you can generally wear your gold, while showering, exercising and preforming daily activities that may expose it to moisture.
Clean your gold using a soft toothbrush with a mix of equal parts hydrogen peroxide + baking soda. Gently scrub your piece then rinse and pat dry. Use a polishing cloth to bring the shine back.
Brass
Over time brass will tarnish and depending on your body chemistry, may stain the skin with black or green marks. To maintain the original finish as long as possible, keep brass jewelry away from water and store in an air tight bag or jewelry box with an anti-tarnish square.
Clean your brass with a commercial brass cleaner such as “JAX”. This will restore your piece to its original shine. Alternatively you may use a soft toothbrush with a dot of toothpaste OR you can soak the piece in a small amount of coca-cola for a few minutes.
Stones
Turquoise
Turquoise is a soft absorbent stone that will darken and may take on a more greenish hue due to exposure to natural oils, lotions, soaps, etc. with wear and time. Removing your turquoise jewelry before showering, exercising, applying skincare, any other activity where the jewelry may be submerged in water/liquids/chemicals this aging can be slowed.
Opals
Similar to turquoise, opals are a soft material and should be handled with the same care precautions. The lustre of opals can quickly degrade with wear but can be preserved by following the same care regimen recommended for turquoise.
Resin
Acyrlic Resin and UV Resin cabochons can be scratched or nicked by hard or abrasive surfaces but can often be buffed out. Please reach out using the contact form if your resin jewelry needs repair.
Other Stones + Materials
Onyx, natural crystals, quartz, moonstones, agates, and vintage glass are harder materials and more durable. They will require minimal maintenance from daily wear and tear but are still prone to scratches and cracks. Avoid dropping on hard surfaces and store in a clean, dry area.
If you are unsure about durability or how to care for your stones/gems/glass you can refer to the Gem Encyclopedia for more in-depth information.
